The Developing Minds, Bodies and Character Afterschool Program was established to provide academic support and mentoring for elementary and middle school youth

In the Greater Mecklenburg County area. The program is creating partnerships with the local school districts and the juvenile court system. The DMBAC Afterschool Program uses the participation in youth sports such as football, cheerleading and extra-curricular activities to draw at-risk youth into the academic program. The DMBAC Afterschool Program encompasses three primary components: Academics, Enrichment and Recreation.

The Developing Minds, Bodies and Character Afterschool Program is dedicated to providing all youth with the goal of a obtaining a college education and achieving the necessary skills needed for success in life.

Participants are treated with respect and given the opportunity to experience growth in the areas of interacting with others, teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill development. One of the primary goals of DMBAC is to create a positive environment that fosters improvement in self-confidence through success in the classroom as well as athletics. The DMBAC Afterschool Program provides
engaging academic and athletic activities for children. These activities are not seen as an end in themselves, but as vehicles for creating values, building life skills and solidifying peer and adult relationships. An engaging activity is one that holds children's attention, awakens their imagination, and inspires them to want to learn more. DMBAC afterschool believes that all children

have equal rights to be accepted, respected and valued by others. Our children are viewed as individuals to be developed, not problems to be solved.
